Egg: The data on the egg in the box above, is from notes taken at the time of collection, as no photograph was taken of the egg. When seen the egg had no pigment. The egg hatched by the evening of the following day, implying an incubation of 40-45 hours.

Larva: The early larva has 3 conspicuous dark pigment blotches ventrally along the notochord (B), as well as on the snout and yolk-sac; and a rough finfold surface (B1). B: 5-10 hours post-hatch (26°C).

 

Although this egg was only recorded once, on 4 January 1997, it is added here for the record. Based on the egg and larval characteristics it might belong to the Stromateidae or Nomeidae.
